Badian is an evergreen tree native to Southeast Asia. Usually the trees grow to a height of only 4-6 metres, but they can reach up to 20 metres.
In Chinese culture, the plant is called "eight-horned anise" or simply "eight-horned", referring to the fruit, which usually has eight follicles.
Anethole, the main constituent of star anise, produces the characteristic licorice aroma for which star anise essential oil and fruit are known.
As the main ingredient in doTERRA ZenGest™, badian may be beneficial for stomach upset when used topically.
